Your hosts, Art and Charlotte Andersen

Charlotte is a Missouri native, growing up in Jefferson City, MO. From an early age aviation and flying were Charlottes passions, introduced to flying through her Dad. She went to Purdue University at the early age of 15, and entered Medical School at an incredible age of 18yrs old. Working medical related jobs, Charlotte put herself through school. Now licensed in several states, Charlotte still practices several weeks out of the year.

Art is a Texas native, living most of this life in South Dakota, building and running large grain farm. Aviation and hunting were early passions, as were travelling and expanding the limited horizons of rural, midwest living. Eventually taking over the 4th generation farm, Art spent 32 years of his life in the intense business of large scale grain farming.

Charlotte and Art met through their common love of flying and immediately became an inseperable pair, enjoying each other more than they ever thought anyone could. Art and Charlotte had each spent years in the respective careers, building and running difficult, demanding business's.

When they met they were each ready for a change. Having considerable history in Wyoming between them, moving to Dubois was a natural and easy choice.

Charlotte and the Stitt's Playmate

Charlotte's earliest memories are of helping her Dad build the Stitt's Playmate, a built-from- scratch homebuilt airplane. Only 3 years old in the beginning, Charlotte loved airplanes and aviation right off and spent years with her Dad building, flying, and showing their award winning airplane.

Their Stitt's Playmate was two-time Grand Champion at the greatest airshow, the Oshkosh Experimental Aircraft show. After her Father died in 2002, Charlotte donated their Stitt's Playmate to the South Dakota Aviation Museum in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Charlotte still actively flies, owning her own Cessna 182 RG, and sharing the piloting duties with Art in their Cessna T210 they travel in.

Farming in South Dakota

Aside from hunting, shooting, and flying, Art's previous life was spent building and operating a large grain farm in eastern South Dakota. The 4th generation family farm grew to over 30,000 acres and spread across 12 different counties in South Dakota.

While building and running the farm gave Art valuable background, it was never where he wanted to be. Art and Charlotte started downsizing the farm in 2001 and shifting focus to commercial pheasant hunting. Together they built a very successful, high-end hunting business which they really enjoyed. Not wanting to quit the hunting business, the move to Wyoming ultimately meant ending the South Dakota pheasant hunting. The Andersen's did move their kennel of fine Pointing Lab dogs with them to Dubois in hope of more hunting.

Both Charlotte and Art have enjoyed flying and the doors that aviation had opened to them over the years, and it's especially fitting that aviation is what brought them together. They became engaged while flying in the open-cockpit Stearman biplane.

August 2007 was the Andersen's most recent trip to Tanzania, spending 3 weeks there hunting in Masailand. This trip provided the last experiences Art will write about in his upcoming book about hunting Tanzania. This was Charlotte's first safari with her own license and she took her first Cape Buffalo while there.
